HIV is caused by a virus that compromises the body’s immune system, making it unable to fight off certain infections. If untreated, HIV can become AIDS (the most advanced stage of HIV).  HIV/AIDS is spread through infected body fluids, such as blood, semen, pre-seminal fluid, fluid from the vagina, and breast milk.  Pregnant women can also pass HIV/AIDS to their children, in utero. There is no cure for HIV/AIDS, however, through proper treatment, you can live a longer and heather life. For more information on HIV/AIDS please visit Health Canada and The Canadian AIDS Society
