Shingles are caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox, so if you've ever had chickenpox then you are already infected. Typically Shingles lies dormant so not everyone who has had chickenpox will develop shingles. Approximately 1 in 3 people will develop shingles at some point in their life. Most people who get shingles are between 50 to 70 years of age, but it can happen at any age. For more information please visit Health Canada
